On March 20-21, 2024, Agency for All Jean Christophe and Courtney participated at UNFPA Expert Group Meeting to “Take Stock of Progress and Plan Forward for Measuring Reproductive Agency in Post 2030 Agenda”.
With the objective to inform their work on measuring/tracking the existing indicators in the SDGs as well as to inform the post-2030 agenda on what the future “SDGS” might be, and how/where/why they’d make the case to continue to integrate metrics on reproductive agency (or related constructs) in the future tracking systems in the UN, UN staff, academics/researchers, a few funding organizations, and some civil societies participated at this meeting hosted by UNFPA NYC.
Ambitious, packed with presentations and panels, it was not surprising time management was an issue for conversations to get to depth! Through some group work, participants were able to share more thoughts to meet the objectives of the meeting: informing new terminology/framing, defining elements of a measurement framework, thinking about expanding data sources/adding to existing surveys, what we’re missing in current measures/what could be included in post-2030.
During this gather-up, our project had some nice coverage and highlights: On Day 1, Afeefa Abdur-Rahman from USAID shared during a panel on USAID investments/priorities a call out to Agency for All with nice remarks focused on localization and the SBC and practical long-term vision for the work around measure uptake/application. Then came Jean Christophe on Day 2 as he shared out during a panel discussion on ‘insights from academia’ on both the Bureau for Africa buyin on Contraceptive Acceptability (formerly Hesitancy) and the Agency Measure development study.
Given the stage of the project as of now, it was more a teaser of what’s to come, as all participants to learn more about the its upcoming results.
